Valvettithurai based Mr.Narathnasami, age of 94, has been awarded by Northern Province Governor Mr.G.A.Sandrasri, for taking part in the kite festival held yesterday at Thuraiyappa stadium, Jaffna. The event was organised by Secretariat of Northern Province in order to promote traditional art and cultural events in this area.
Mr.Navarathnasami had made to fly in the Jaffna skies two numbers of kites – Rocket and ‘’Kaddukodi”. It is notable that Mr.Navarathnasami is the most senior seaman in Valvettithurai area and possesses vast knowledge in traditional seamanship especially in sails, used in sailing vessels. Further more, the sails of Model ship ‘’Annaporani’’ has been made under his supervision few months ago. The subject model ship is ready now and pending to be exhibited.
