Annual “Thaipongal” air kite competition organized by “Vikneswara community Centre’ has proved again with success at Valvettithurai, Jaffna on 14th Jan 2018, witnessing participation thousands of people from various parts of Jaffna Peninsula.
The event headed by Mr.Gengaruban (President of the Community Centre) commenced at about 1430 hours, where Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic resources development Minister Mahintha Amrawira participates as Chief Guest and Northern provincial council member Mr.M.K.Sivajilingam and Tamil parliamentarian Mr.Ankajan participated as a Special guest.
In addition to Kite competition, the event continued with a musical show of Super singers of Tamilnadu.
Over 6- kites of various designs and multiple colors had so far beautified the sky and many more standing by to fly.
It may be noted that on last year more 60 kites of all shapes, colours, sizes with dimensions had taken part in the competition, where giant shape lizard secured the first place in that great kite festival.
Moderate wind resulted from prevailed northeast monsoon favored most of the kites to fly successfully.
The puppetry on the flying platform audience and secured the first place in the competition. The kite was designed by Mr.Mahenthiran, who has won the first prize in the last year competition as well.
The kite competition has grown over the past 7 years because of the support of participants and increasing number of spectators not only from local but also from all over the Peninsula.
