Valvettithurai welfare association in Canada on Saturday released a commemorative stamp, recognized by Canadian Government, on Florence C Robinson ex Annapurani, the historical sailing vessel of Valvettithurai, which had made a journey from Srilanka to Western coast of America. The event was held at Etobicoke, Canada on 23rd Jan 2016 at about 1700 hours.
“The release of the commemorative stamp on Annapurani will again witness the ancient shipping of Tamils in Srilanka” said Mr.R.N.Lokeinthiralingam, the Editor of Uthayan, published in Canada.
Valvettithurai made sailing Vessel Annapurani was trading in South Asia till she was bought by an American merchant Mr.Florence. Under the new ownership, the Annapurani had made a historical journey from Valvettithurai to Gloucester, America in 1939, via Colombo, Suez Canal, Mediterranean Sea and Atlantic Ocean with several brave sailors of Valvettithurai – a well-known little coastal town in Northern Srilanka.
