International standard swimming pool to be built at Valvettithurai, Jaffna

An international standard swimming pool, a 50 meter pool, is to be built at Valvettithurai, Jaffna, by the Ministry of Sports, in the name of Valvettithurai born Guinness world records holder Kuman Ananthan who swam across Palk Strait, said Mr.M.K.Sivajilingam, member of Northern Provincial council.
According to Sivajilingam, the proposed pool is to worth 250 million Srilankan rupees.
Sivajilingam, who earlier made a request to Jaffna district’s Government Agent Mr.Vethanayagam to consider of constructing the proposed swimming pool at Theeruvil of Valvettithurai, further said that having seen the relevant area, the Director and Members of Sports Ministry of Northern province have requested to commence formalities to handover the ownership of the proposed land.
It is learnt that basis of Sivajilingam request, the secretary of Valvettithurai urban council in a letter has confirmed that once approval is received from NPC Chief Minister Mr.C.V.Vikneswaran to use the relevant land, Ministry of sports will be informed accordingly.
The proposed area, which measures about 8 acres lies about 600 meters south of Valvettithurai junction, belongs to the Valvettithurai Urban council.
