Maaveerar Naal (Great heroes day) observed amid Heavy weather

Maaveerar Naal (Great heroes day) observed today in Tamils home land – North and eastern Srilanka. amid prevailing strong wind and heavy rain due to closely passing Cyclonic Storm.
In Valvettithurai, birth place LTTE leader Prabhakaran, the day was observed at Thiruvil. Main oil lamp was lit at 06:05, following which lamps were lit public amid bad weather. Thousand of people have witnessed the event.
'Mavirar Nal' is a 'Remembrance day' observed by Sri Lankan Tamils to remember the deaths of rebels, who mainly fought for the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). It is being held each year on 27th of November, the date on which the first LTTE cadre, Mr.Shankar (Sathiyanathan) died in combat in 1982.
