Over 70 kites of all shapes, colors, sizes with dimensions were setting the sky over beautiful newly renovated Uthayasuriyan beach - one of the prominent beache along the Point Pedro – KKS road.
Light wind resulted from prevailed north east monsoon favored most of kites to fly, except couple of kites which are believed to be excessively weighed and thus unable to fly.
A handmade fighter jet, similar to those seen on the sky several years ago, had secured the first place. The 10 foot long, 3 dimensional shape Fighter Jet was named as ‘Srilankan Fighter jet’.
The kite was designed by Mr.Mahenthiran, who has won the prizes in the past years too.
The kite competition has grown over the past few years because of the support of participants and increasing number of spectators not only from local but also from all over the Peninsula.
Vikneswaran ceremonially opened newly constructed sea barrier
A newly constructed Sea barrier to protect the beach was ceremonially opened by Northern provincial council’s Chief Minister Mr.C.V.Vikneswarn at about 1830 hours, followed by the kite competition.
