Northeast Monsoon, which begun on last weeks ago, continue to bring heavy rain to Jaffna Peninsula, including to Vadamaradchi and its coastal areas.
Floodings are observed in many places and normalcy of life is affected due to continuous raining which lasts until today in the morning.
Rough seas and strong winds are also observed in the coastal areas in the Palk Strait from Thondamanaru to Point Pedro.
The Jaffna Peninsula is most fertile, being irrigated from numerous wells, which are being filled during Northeast Monsoon from late October till the beginning of January.
Jaffna peninsula is said to be receiving 1200 mm of rainwater throughout the year, where maximum is recorded during North east monsoon
Department of Meteorology stated in its today report that due to the atmospheric disturbance in the southwest Bay of Bengal to the East of Sri Lanka, the showery condition, and cloudy skies are expected in the Northern half of the island. Fairly strong gusty winds can be expected over the coastal areas of Northern, North-western, Western and Southern provinces.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Northern and North-Central provinces and in the Puttalam and Trincomalee districts. Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places elsewhere after 2.00 p.m.
Fairly heavy falls (about 75 mm) can be expected at some places in the Northern province.
