A week after the onset of the northeast monsoon, several areas in the north, including several places in Jaffna Peninsula are said to be received considerable rainfall yesterday and today.
According to the Meteorological Department of Srilanka Cloudy skies with showers or thundershowers are expected at several places in the Northern, North Central, Eastern ans Uva provinces and in the Hambanthota district.
The Jaffna Peninsula is most fertile, being irrigated from numerous wells, which are being filled during North East Monsoon from late October till beginning of January.
The monsoon in Asia which affects the Indian Subcontinent including Bay of Benga, South China Sea, Taiwan Strait and East China sea from late October till March.
