A fishing trawler has been stranded on Valvettithurai coast, near Orikkadu after an engine failure. The incident took place at about 1400 hours on today. The fishing trawler, which was on the way to her destination after fishing in the Palk Strait, had suffered an engine failure off Athi kovil.
While the attempts failed to repair the engine, the Trawler commenced drifting with the prevailing wind and current in the SW direction and finally stranded on the reef at Orikadu and partially sunk due to the hull failure and ingress of water.
All the attempts to bring the Trawler to the shore failed so far.
