The low pressure which had formed in North of Andaman and Nicobar sea on 8th of October, have made a landfall on the Indian east coast of Orisa yesterday night after becoming a severe cyclonic storm, names as Phailin - the strongest storm ever measured in the Indian Ocean.

Indian news agencies say that Cyclone Phailin have caused "extensive damage" to the eastern coast, especially in the state of Orisa.
Storm Phailin which had a CPA (Closet point of approach) of 600 nautical miles to Point Pedro of Jaffna, Srilanka while moving yesterday, have made remarkable damages to the eastern coast of Srilanka too.
Places of Vadmaradchi east, Manarkadu, Kaddaikadu, Vannar kulam, semmalai and Mullaitivu etc in Jaffna and Mullaitivu district has sustained damages to fishing boats, loss of fishing boats and fishing gears due to the gust winds, sea waves and swell waves caused by cyclone 'Phailin'.
Meanwhile, the US Navy's Joint Typhoon Warning Centre had predicted that Phailin could produce gusts of up to 296km/h (184 mph), while the London-based Tropical Storm Risk classified Phailin as a Category Five storm - the most powerful.
