Number of birds, most of them are of Gruidae family, were seen in Theeruvil, Valvettithurai yesterday. The birds migration is observed due to the changes in the local climate in view of the prevailing seasonal North east monsoon, which begins in the late of October and last till beginning of January.
During north east monsoon, numerous foreign birds most of them from Australia and Indonesia, migrate to Jaffna peninsula and some part of south of Tamil nadu, India.
The Island's one of the longest lagoon 'Thondaimanaru-Chundikkulam Lagoon' (Elephant pass lagoon)attracts a wide variety of water birds, including American Flamingoes, ducks, gulls, terns other shore birds during North east monsoon.
