‘Florence C Robinson’ a sailing vessel, which had crossed Atlantic, in 1938, from Valvettithurai, Srilanka to Gloucester of West coast of United States of America, by Seafarers hailed from Valvettithurai. ‘Florence C Robinson’ initially named as Annaporani, which had been built in 1929 at Valvettithurai – the place uttered by all in this Island.
The specification of ‘Florence C Robinson ex Annaporani’ seems to be unclear, especially among VVTr’s, as no or little record has been kept in the past by the peoples who involved in the shipping in Valvettithurai or it is believed that the little records maintained were vanished due to the displacement of people in the past during the ethnic conflict.
The book ‘Tahiti Bound’ written by Donald J Langley and Holly J Blake states the specification of ‘Annaporani’, which is believed to be correct, however it is still questionable.
