Hundred of devotees, mainly from Polikandy and its adjacent places including from Valvettithurai have attended ‘Skanda Sashti Soorasamharam’ festival held at Polikandy Kanthavanam Supramani Swami Murugan Temple yesterday.
The puja of Skanda sasti commenced at about 19:00 hours and Soorasamharam was held at about 21:00 hours at the outer road of the Polikandy Kanthavanam temple. Unlike other temples, in Kanthavanam Murugan Temple, the function of ‘Kantha Sasthi’ used to begin with hoisting of a sacred flag to indicate the beginning of function. This is followed by kappu kattuthal (sacred thread tying) ritual.
The event of holy bath (Theertham in Tamil) and ‘Kodiyirakkam’ (bringing down of sacred flag) will be held today.
Polikandy is located at about 1.5 Kilo meter, east of Valvettithurai junction, on the Point Pedro – KKS Road.
