Kantha Sasti observed in the Katirkamam Murugan Temple

Hundred of devotees, from all over the Island have participated ‘Skanda Sashti festival Pooja’ held at Katirkaamam. The Puja of Skanda Sasti commenced at morning and continued till evening.
The ancient Kathirkaamam temple (Also spelled as Kataragama, Sinhala - කතරගම, Tamil -கதிர்காமம் Katirkāmam), which is dedicated to Tamil god ‘Skanda Murugan’, witnesses the presence of Hindhusium in Southern Srilnka. It is one of the very few religious sites in Srilanka that is venerated by all the people irrespective of their religion. However, the temple is now mostly venerated by the majority Sinhalese.
The Indian Tamizh Saint Arunagirinadar has sung hymns about the Kathirgamam temple in his ‘Thirupugazh’ (Sacred hymns).
Kathirkaamam is located in Thisamaragama AGA division in Uva province, which is about 280 km from Colombo, capital of Srilanka.
