Depression moves towards North east, Jaffna to get heavy rain

The depression over southwest Bay of Bengal and lay centered at 0830 hours IST of today, the 4th January 2014 near latitude 8.50 N and longitude 83.50 E, about 263 southeast of Nagapatinam and 133 Nm east of Trincomalee (Sri Lanka). According to latest weather reports, it may intensify further into a deep depression during next 24 hrs. It would move west-north west wards slowly and cross Sri Lanka coast to the north of latitude 9.00N by tomorrow, the 5th January 2014 evening.

 

Under the influence of this system, rainfall would occur at many places with isolated heavy to very heavy falls over North eastern coastal Srilanka and isolated heavy fall over Jaffna Peninsula, Kilinochi and Mullaitivu.
