Valvettithurai Sri Valamipika sametha Vaitheeswarar (Sivan temple) chariot festival was held today. Hundreds of devotees from Valvettithurai and its adjacent villages of Valvetty, Kamparmail, Komantharai etc had participated in the annual Chariot festival. New chariots of conventional and modern type had been constructed last year for the Goddess ‘Amman’ and Gods ‘Vinayaka’ and ‘Murukan’.
The annual festival have commenced on 1st of this month and the festival is going on now, which lasts for 16 days, where the last day festival of 'Theerththam' will be held on tomorrow, in the Oorani beach, Valvettithurai.
The entire temple, including its vast area of land, located in various places of Jaffna peninsula and Vanni as well, belongs Mr.Thiruvenkadam family, who is the grand father of Mr.V.Pirapakaran, founder of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam.
This famous and one of the largest Sivan temple in this Island is located about 500 meter west of Valvettithurai junction, adjacent to KKS – Point pedro road.
