Valvai Sri Muthumari Amman temple annual festival commences today

Valvettithurai Sri Muththumari Amman temple annual festival have commenced today, 30th Apr 2014. Having commenced with special Pooja at 1100 hundred hours, the temple Lion Flag ('Kodi erram' in Tamil) was hoisted at the tower ('Kopuram' in Tamil) at about mid day.
Number of devotees were present for the commencement of the festival amid considerably high atmospheric temperature prevailing in Jaffna Peninsula.
The festival lasts for 15 days, where the chariot festival will be held on 13th of May 14, followed by ‘Theerththam’ on 14th of May 14.
This is the most notable festival in Valvettithurai, which attracts many people, including those displaced people living overseas.
This famous old temple is located about 500 m west of Valvettithurai junction, along KKS – Point Pedro road, adjacent to Valvettithurai Sivan temple.
