Valvettithurai Sivan temple chariot festival was held today morning. Thousands of devotees from Valvettithurai and its adjacent villages of Valvetty, Kamparmail, Komantharai, Kerudaavil and Thondaimanaaru had participated in the annual Chariot festival.
New chariots of conventional and modern type constructed for Goddess ‘Amman’ and Gods ‘Vinayaka’ and ‘Murukan’ had been trailed in the outer road of the Sivan temple last 20th morning.
It should be noted that the Chariots were damaged last year, by a tropical cyclone 'Nilam', which caused considerable damages to northern coastal areas of Jaffna Peninsula, while on her way, prior dissipating over the land of Tamil Nadu.
Valvettithurai Sivan temple annual festival have commenced on 12th of this month and the festival is going on now, which lasts for 16 days, where the last day festival of 'Theerththam' will be held on tomorrow, in the Oorani beach.
This famous old largest Sivan temple is located about 500m west of Valvettithurai junction, adjacent to KKS – Point pedro road.
The entire temple, including its vast area of land, located in various places of Jaffna peninsula and Vanni as well, belongs Mr.Thiruvenkadam family, who is the grand father of Mr.V.Pirapakaran, founder of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam.
