A fisherman has gone missing after struck by a lightening in Palk strait. The person is identified as Thankavelaayutham arulaanantham, age 19, from Aathikovil, Valvettithurai.
It has been reported that Arulaanantham with a fellow fisherman gone for fishing in the early morning of today from Aathikovil of VVT, has been struck and thrown over board after struck by a lightening due to the depression 'Mahasen'. The fellow fisherman, who was unconscious for the time being due to the striking of the same lightening, has returned back shore safely.
Immediate rescue was not available due the prevailing wind and rough sea in the Palk strait. However the search for the missing person is under way now by fellow fishermen of Aathikovil.
Severe Tropical cyclone 'Mahasen', presently moving North west by North direction, causes strong winds, with occasional
gust wind and heavy rain in Jaffna Peninsula, with intermittent thunder and lightening.
Seas, in the Palk strait, are seen rough with strong winds, gusting at times, in the coastal belt of Point pedro - Thondaimanaru.
