Photo shows the new Thondaimanaru bridge which is under construction now, expected to be completed very soon. Thondaimanaru Bridge is located in Jaffna peninsula, along the B 75 road (Jaffna- Ponnalai- Point Pedro) at 43rd km, and connects Vadamaraadchchi and Valaikaamam.
It was considered as strategic point during the civil war, in the past, between Srilankan forces and Libertarian Tigers of Tamil Eelam. The old bridge was partly destroyed by Tigers in an unexpected way in 1985 and the damaged portion was temporarily then repaired.
Valvettithurai is located about 4 Km east of Thodaimanari in the same B75 road.
