Valvettithurai or VVT (வல்வெட்டித்துறை, Valvettiturai, Valveddithurai, Valvai,වල්වෙට්ටිතුරෙයි in Sinhala ) is a town of Jaffna District on the northeast coast of the Jaffna Peninsula in the Northern Province, Sri Lanka, governed by an Urban Council. The population is mainly Sri Lankan Tamils of Hindu or minority Catholic faith.
Pundit Vaidthi linkap pillai is considered as first remarkable person of Valvettiturai.
It is well known to all that Valvettithurai is the birth place of Mr. V. Prabakaran, who does not require any introduction.
The founders of TELO Mr.Kuttimani and Mr.Thankathurai too has born in Valvettithurai and Thondaimanaru respectively.

Navratnaswami, who born in Thondaimanaru, the first person ever to swim the Palk Strait, in 1954, who took 28 hours from VVT to Point Calimere of Tamil Nadu, which is also the closest point to Valvettithurai.
While maintaining strict policies of Hindutva in the larger temples, Valvettithurai is having its expensive festival, called as ‘Inthira Vizha’, at the end of the annual festival of Valvai Sri Muthumari Amman temple.
Apart from having many unique features, Valvettithurai has had a considerable Number of Seafarers in various ranks.
