Kamala Periyathambi, one of the most notable female writer, passed away in Toronto, Canada. She was 84.
Kamala Periyathambi, who wrote under the pen name 'Vathana', was known for her versatility in writing, music and Radio drama.
Kamla, 84, who leaves a son and 4 daughters besides her husband Periyathambi, was suffering from age-related problems for some time.
Born at Valvettithurai of Jaffna, Kamala had her early studies at Chithambara College and Batticaloa. After her schooling in Srilanka, She pursued her Diploma in Music at Chennai Music Academy at Tamilnadu, India.
Thereafter she served as Music teacher in various schools in Srilanka, including Valvettithurai Chithambara College and Vada Hindu Ladies College, where she wrote School anthem in 1954.
Kamala is considered one of the notable persons in Valvettithurai as well.
Kamala won three titles of ‘Kana kuyil,’ Senthamizh selvi’, ‘Iru Kalai Vallabi’ for her excellent achievements in various fields.
The funeral of Kamala will take place on 5th June at Toronto, Canada.
