Cylone Ditwah, which currently centred in Nothern Srilanka, causes 'Storm Surge' in Seas of Palk Strait.
'Sea levels rise significantly along the coast during a storm due to a phenomenon called storm surge. Storm surge is an abnormal rise in sea level generated by a storm's winds pushing water onshore and the low atmospheric pressure at the storm's center. This surge is added to the normal astronomical tide, creating a combined "storm tide" that can cause severe flooding.
