Jaffna’s only international swimming pool at Valvettithurai Revady beach was declared opened by Finance minister Mangala samaraweera at a Colourful ceremony, held at Valvettithurai, Jaffna on today.
The swimming is named as ‘Kumar Anandan Swimming pool’ so as to honor late Mr.Kumar Anandan who made 7 world Guinness records, including swimming across Palk strait.
Sports minister Harin Fernando, TNA Parliamentarians Mavai Senathirajah, M.A sumanthiran, E.Saravanapavan, ex Parliamentarian Sivajilingam, Ananthan Wife Mrs.Manal Ananthan Ananthan’s son Mr.Rajan Anandan ( Former Google's southeast Asia and India vice-president,) N.Vethanayahan (G.A, Jaffna), VVT UC Chairman K.Karuna nantharasa, Government official and public witnessed the event which commenced at about 1100 hours.
The swimming pool, which is on stage one, has cost 100 million rupees so far and expected to go for another two stages by constructing Baby pool and a Diving section.
The event continued till 1330 hours.
