Sivajilingam elected as Chairman of Valvettithurai Urban Council

Former Parliamentarian M.K.Sivajilingan elected as new Chairman of Valvettithurai Urban Council, after securing 7 Votes in the 16 Member local council, obtaining 6 Votes Mayooran of the Main opposition TAK also contested for the post of Chairman.
Jaffna Local election Commissioner Sutharsan headed Voting, which took place at about 1100 Hours at the Auditorium of Valvettithurai Urban Council.
Shivajilingam, former member of Tamil Eelam Liberation Organization (TELO served as chairman of Valvettithurai Urban Council in 2011 as well.
Shivajilingam contested the parliamentary elections and became Member of Parliament twice and once in Nothern Provincial Council.
Shivajilingam is considered a Maverick in Sri Lankan Tamil politics and was for many years the only prominent Tamil politician to openly call for an independent international investigation into alleged war crimes during the civil war.
