VEDA – Valvai Educational Development Association has released its monthly statement, which includes its monthly report of tuition and student activities, accounts balance sheets, donors etc. VEDA is a nonprofit organization which intends to bring up the educational standards of students of Valvettithurai and adjacent areas.
The 71st Anniversary and final day of the annual sports meet of ‘Valvettithurai Rainbow Sports club’ is held at the Valvettithurai Rainbow sports ground here on today. The event is headed by Mr. K. The chariot (or "Ther" in Tamil) festival of Valvettithurai Nediyakadu Pillayar temple was held yesterday 21st of August 2013. Hundreds of devotees from Valvettithurai area and number of displaced Tamils of Western countries had participated at the event. The chief Deity, Lord Ganapathi, along with Lord Muruga, was taken from the temple yesterday at about noon to the gaily decorated chariot.
The chariot (or "Ther" in Tamil) festival of the historic Thondaimanaru Selva Sannithi Murugan temple in Jaffna Peninsula was held yesterday morning with thousands of devotees from all over the island and hundreds of displaced Tamils of Western countries participating the event. The chief Deity, Lord Murugan's 'Vel', was taken from the temple yesterday morning at about 08:30 hours to the conventionally decorated chariot, which has been surrounded by a huge number of devotees.

The annual festival of historic Thondaimanaru Selva Sannithi temple, in Jaffna, has commenced today with Kodiyetram – the traditional ceremony of hoisting of flag at the uppermost portion of the temple, to mark the beginning of the annual festival.
At 04:00 a.m. on today, the temple priests hoisted the Temple flag (kodiyetram in Tamil) to mark the commencement of 15-day festival amidst chanting of hymns.
A group of students of Jaffna University has visited Valvettithurai and Thondaimanaru area two days ago, 31st July 2013.
The group, consisting of 40 students of final year management faculty, was accompanied by a fellow student hailing from Valvettithurai. The Students were on a 1 day motivational tour, where they have visited various places of Valvettithurai and Thonadaimanaru area.
The 60th Anniversary and final day of the annual sports meet of ‘Valvettithurai Nediyakadu Young man Sports club’ (NYSC) is held at the Valvettithurai NYSC ground here on today. The event is headed by Mr. K. N. Devathaas, the president of NYSC. The meet also is witnessing a host of many events with the Players of NYSC as well as other Sport clubs. The sports meet saw as many as 20 teams of various parts of Jaffna taking part in the final events today.
Valvettithurai based Mr. T. Sakthivel, who has donated his blood over 50 times in the past, has been awarded by President Mahinda Rajapaksa on 14th June 2013 during the World blood donor day. Mr. T. Sakthivel, who is presently residing at Valvettithurai, is not only a Blood Donor, but also found to be a social worker in his locality.
A blood drive has been arranged at the Valvettithurai Oorani hospital today by Hospital Authorities and VAISWA (Valvai Seaman Welfare Asociation), which commenced at about 0900 hours by fulfilling the requirements. About 46 donors, including Army personnel of Valvettithurai Army Camp, have donated their blood.
Born in Valvettithurai on April 8th 1930, the late Mr. R. S. Sivasubramaniam (SLAS, JP) had studied at the Valvai Chithambara College. Having completed his higher studies in various places, Mr. R. S. Sivasupramaniam had served with government in various fields in high ranks, including as a secretary to the ministry of health and as an Export and import controller, till his retirement.
